Chromium and Lanthanum on Transition Alumina Surfaces: The Role of Bulk Point- Defect Distributions on Catalytic Activity

چکیده
We employ a combination of Z-contrast scanning transmission electron microscopy (ZSTEM) and first-principles density-functional calculations to investigate the interaction between metal atoms and cubic alumina catalytic supports. We show that there are two observed La sites at the porous γalumina surface, and that single La atoms do not exhibit a tendency to cluster. Cr behaves very differently from La it has a tendency to cover the alumina surface in ordered, periodic raft-like patches. The degradation of the chromia/alumina catalyst is related to the possibility for the chromium to move away from the surface into the bulk, and the activation barrier for such a process is higher in ηalumina than in γalumina, i.e., ηalumina is a more durable support for chromium catalyst.

Phase-Transformation of Gamma-Allumina to Alpha-Alumina as an Industrial Catalyst Support
The phase transformation of aluminum hydrates yields various forms of alumina (d, q, K) and eventually alpha-alumina. The decrease in the specific surface area of alumina upon heat treatment is due to changes in crystalline structure and hence a decrease in the porosity of the material, Although the conversion of gamma-alumina to alpha-structure takes place with a lowering in surface area and p...
متن کاملThe role of carburization temperature on the molybdenum carbide surface and their catalytic activity
The surfaces of molybdenum carbide were varied by changing the carburization temperature between 823 and 1123 K. The surfaces of the catalytic material were investigated using in-situ temperature program carburization followed by temperature program reduction and oxidation. In-situ temperature program oxidation (TPO) showed the surfaces of the catalysts contain a similar amoun...
متن کاملDetermination of Activity and Selectivity of n-Heptane by Reforming Catalytic Pt-V Supported on gamma-Alumina
Bimetallic Pt-V supported by Gamma-alumina is used to observe the changes of nheptanewhen passed over this catalyst. The Pt concentration was kept constant at0.1wt% while the concentration of the vanadium was 0.5wt%. The activity andselectivity of catalyst have been determined under conditions at 450-500 degreescentigrade and 15-30 attn. The experimental results show that the addition of second...
متن کاملSynthesis, Characterization and Catalytic Activity of a New Chromium Catalyst Supported on Nanoporous MCM-41 for Oxidation of Olefins and Alkyl Aromatics
The mesoporous molecular sieve MCM-41 was covalently grafted with 3-chloropropyl trimethoxylsilane and then was reacted with [Cr(salpr)(H2O)]Cl, (salpr = N,N'-bis(3-salicylidenaminopropyl)amine) to afford MCM-41 containing Cr(salpr) moiety, Cr(salpr)MCM-41. Powder X-ray diffraction and nitrogen adsorption-desorption analyses revealed that not only the textural characteristics of the support wer...
متن کاملStudy on Catalytic and Photocatalytic Decontamination of (2-Chloroethyl) Phenyl Sulfide with Nano-TiO2
Catalytic and photocatalytic reactions of (2-chloroethyl) phenyl sulfide (2-CEPS), a mimic of bis (2-chloroethyl) sulfide (i.e. Sulfur mustard) were studied on the surfaces of titanium oxide. TiO2 nanoparticles (anatase, rutile and mixture of 80% anatase/20% rutile) along with bulk TiO2 were tested as reactive sorbents for reaction of 2-CEPS at room temperature (25±0.5°C). Reactions were monit...
